EVEN IF YOU ARE NOT A COOK AN EXPERIENCE YOU WILL ENJOY !!!! PDF Print E-mail

My husband, Mike, and I really enjoyed our day with Puspa & Wayan. I am just an ordinary cook and my husband does not cook at all but we decided to do this class after reading about it on tripadvisor, we were not disappointed. We came home inspired and Mike has learnt how to chop vegetables. You can help as much or as little as you like it is up to you, but for a fun day out while you are in Bali a must do. Thank you again, Puspa and Wayan for sharing your home with us.

Awesome! PDF Print E-mail

What a fantastic experience.

We booked the day before at the main Tourist Information Centre in Ubud.

This was more like a 'Learning Lunch' as one classmate noted. Husband and wife Wayan and Puspa are knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. The whole day was awesome - from the markets, to the rice paddies to their house for lots of learning, cooking and eating.

Possibly the Best Feast in Bali! PDF Print E-mail

There is a lot to this cooking course!

The market tour, the talk on rice farming, and village and cultural talks and cooking and eating all make this an exceptional day!

I won't go on too much about this course because it all seems to be covered in previous reviews. However, here are a few of my main points I would like to add...
- The food is outstanding!
- Puspa and her crew are very helpful, friendly and informative!
- Vegetarian? Get ready for an unbelievable feast!!!
- Puspa really knows how to roll her "rrrr's!"

10/10! Thank you Puspa and staff!!

The best Balinesian food ever and WE cooked it PDF Print E-mail

This was our 8th trip to Bali and the Paon Bali Cooking Class would have to be one of the best experiences we have ever had. We were picked up late afternoon by Wayan along with others. Wayan explained in detail how the rice fields work and the local villages. We were then warmly welcomed by Puspa his wife into their traditional Balinese home where we prepared 8 amazing meals. Puspa has the kitchen very well set up for the classes but without loosing the authentic feel.
We ground spices as the sun set, diced, chopped and cooked, then ate our delicious Balinesian food while enjoying a well earned Bintang.
We were given recipe copies of the food we made (very easy to follow) then Wayan dropped us back to our accommodation.
This is much more than a cooking class. It is an experience not to be misses.

Fantastic introduction to Balinese food! PDF Print E-mail

I found out about this class through the great reviews on TripAdvisor and I was not disappointed. It's like no other cooking class in Bali. You're taken on a tour of market in Ubud, given an explanation of how rice grown, followed by a hands on cooking class of about 8 dishes (which were all equally delicious) in the home of Wayan and Puspa. Wayan and Puspa were such gracious and friendly hosts and I learnt so much about Balinese food. I can't wait to try out my recipes at home! I highly recommend this course for those who want to learn about Balinese food and culture and of course eat some delicious food.

A fun, full day! PDF Print E-mail

My husband and I booked this class in early January. We had a great time and really appreciated the modest price of the course and the fact that vegetarian meals were served. Puspa paid special attention to the vegetarian meal ensuring no cross contamination with the meat dishes.

I would definitely do the class again. I offer the following notes on the day not to "break Puspa's life", just to prepare her guests so they know what to expect.

Cooking up a Storm in Bali PDF Print E-mail

This was the most wonderful day in Bali. Would suggest it is a "must" if you are remotely interested in cooking (and even if you're not!). Puspa is the most charming hostess and so friendly and knowledgeable. We met another lovely couple on the day and enjoyed eating our lunch together afterwards. We were amazed that we could cook so many dishes in such a short space of time. Definitely put in on your list of things to do in Bali!

Best cooking class ever! PDF Print E-mail

I have taken cooking classes in other countries that I have visited but without question, this class was the most special and most fun that I've done. Tranfers to and from my hotel in Ubud were on-time and efficient. The tour through the local market was colorful and informative, with Puspa stopping by local vendors to chat and give us samples of fruit and sweets. The day just kept getting better as we had a personal tour of a rice field by Wayan with a chance to plant some rice if we wished. We were then welcomed into Puspa and Wayan's home and treated to welcome drinks, a tour and a full day of cooking and eating fantastic local food. This activity is a 'must-do' in Ubud - great value for money, an incredible day of Balinese culture and food and professional service.

Paon cooking Class....So Good! PDF Print E-mail

We were picked up from our villa at 8.30(free pick up in Ubud area) and driven to the markets where Puspa was waiting for us. She welcomed us and then proceded to walk us through the markets describing uses for different baskets, foods and spices. I love all the colours with bright red chillies, purple eggplants, orange carrots and all the shades of green! We then jumped back in the car and were driven out to their village area Laplapan where Puspa's husband Wayan talked us through how the families co-ordinate the rice fields and how the baby ducks learn to look for a coloured flag so they don't wander off into the wrong fields.

WHAT A GREAT DAY PDF Print E-mail

My daughhter and I were collected from our Resort in Taro and driven to Ubud, to join Puspa & Wayans cooking class, but more like a cooking adventure. Commencing in the Ubud market place, then on to the rice paddies and finally to their home.

The open air kitchen is spotless and the classes fun and hands on. We enjoyed a wonderful meal with 8 others, with lots of photos taken and chattering during the entire time.

A great cooking experience for anyone! PDF Print E-mail

This was easily one of the highlights of my stay in bali. This is a must do its amazing! This was a great experience that everyone should do! The first thing me and my family did was go to the traditional markets in Ubud in the morning. We met Puspa our host and the other people that were doing the cooking class. The markets were a great way to see local produce and goods that were sold. Puspa told you eveything about the markets and gave you a free taste test. After the markets we went to local rice paddies were we meet Wayan, Puspas husband. Wayan explained how the rice is cultivated and how the land is used it is a great way to learn about the rice paddies. Wayan kindly answered any of your questions.

Fantastic day! The highlight of our trip to Bali PDF Print E-mail

Fantastic day! My husband and I decided to stay one night in Ubud to do the cooking class as we read great reviews and our expectations were exceeded! The trip around the market is informative and you can even try Balinese fruit and sweets made locally. The visit to the rice paddy was interesting as it gives you insight into how rice is cultivated. Then off to cook! Wayan and Puspa were extremely welcoming and made us feel at home in their house. We cooked 8 dishes and everyone gets involved which is great! The best part was sitting down at the end and enjoying food you have helped to make. It is so satisfying and we were able to take copies of the recipes home with us! All ingredients were fresh and they used mineral water to make the dishes, so no need to worry about getting Bali belly!
I have recommended this to friends as it is a must to do when you go to Bali.

a relaxing evening with new found friends PDF Print E-mail

After being picked up from my hotel, Ibu Puspa and Pak Wayan welcomed me and others into their house. They shared with us some of their traditions, before inviting us to roll up our sleeves and get busy chopping, slicing and stirring as we cook a banquet of traditional Balinese food. Along the way, Ibu Puspa explained to us the nature of Balinese cooking and the ingredients we were working with. In this evening class, we were fortunate to then sit in the open air dining room as we enjoyed our creations - relaxing and sharing as we ate.

Amazing authentic Balinese cooking experience - must do in Ubud PDF Print E-mail

My partner and I visited the Paon Bali Cooking School at the beginning of January, and can say that it was definitely one of the highlights of our trip to Bali. Upon being picked up in the morning by Wayan we were informed that the other members of the group had cancelled due to the bad weather and that we would be the only two for the morning class, so we would be given a private class for around $35 AUD each!

The highlight of our trip to Bali, and SO much more than a cooking class. This is a must-do experience in Bali PDF Print E-mail

The Paon Cooking Class was recommended by a friend, and we're so glad we booked.

Wayan's driver collected us from Sanur (and hour's drive away) and took us to the padi near Laplaplan, where we were met by Wayan. Wayan is the most delightful host: he took time to show us (my husband and two teenage girls) the padis and explain how rice is planted & harvested, and how the community shares much of the work and water to keep the local economy spinning along.

Everything we hoped for plus more..... PDF Print E-mail

After reading so many great reviews on TripAdvisor, as well as the desire to get a glimpse into the way of life in Bali, we decided this was a must do. The day was fantastic, from the local markets in the morning to being invited into the beautiful home of Wayan and "Aunty" Puspa, everything felt genuine. If you are contemplating doing a cooking course in Bali, we can't recommend this enough. Only thing to be aware of is the classes are relatively large, our group turned out to be around 15 people. Not a negative but something to be aware of up front (in case you are expecting it to just be the two you, which we were!!).

Delicious and informative cooking class PDF Print E-mail

This was an amazing cooking class that was so much more. My 9 year old daughter and I had a blast on this rainy day in Ubud. Starting with a visit to the local's market we perused spices, veggies and fruit. I was introduced to the Mangosteen and I will be dreaming of this fruit for a long time. I had a special request to make sambal matah and they picked up the fresh ginger flowers to make it. Vegetarian's are welcome and lucky for us the other 2 people in our class were also veggies so it was no problem and we made an incredible vegetarian curry. Other highlights included tuna steamed in a banana leaf, homemade coconut oil, long beans and tempe. Puspa and her husband were friendly and informative.l immediately felt at home in the kitchen and we all were chopping, grinding and cooking shortly after we arrived. The rain came down and the delicious aromas filled the air and then we filled our bellies with an incredible feast. I highly recommend this class and the entire experience was delightful.

Best part of our trip to Bali!!!!! This is a must do! PDF Print E-mail

This is the best way to learn about authentic Balinese cooking from a wonderful Balinese family. They teach you about the rice paddies, farming, local village culture/relations, organic gardening and of course cooking local dishes. They will even cater to vegetarians, which was great for me! Puspa and Quyen are amazingly warm and friendly and you really feel like you are part of their family. I cannot recommend this cooking class more.

Brilliant day, really authentic PDF Print E-mail

The whole day was great, right from the market, to the rice paddies to the village. Puspa and Wayan were really nice and welcoming. We coked and ate everything we made, really lovely. Very clean and hygenic. Did a class in Sept 2010 and going back in Jan 2011 to do it again. Having been on a course in Bali before this one was outstanding.
