Great Experience, Great Food..Highly Recommended PDF Print E-mail

The Paon Cooking Class was one of our best experiences in Bali. The hosts/teachers, Puspa and Wayan were very kind, and personable. We not only got a lesson in Balinese cooking but were given some history and background about the Balinese people and their culture.

After an informative visit to the local market, there was plenty of hands-on experience with prepping items for the various food items that were on the menu. Myself and my girlfriend had a great time and thoroughly enjoyed every single food item which we ate for lunch once done.

Exceeded my expectations, and I'm a foodie critic! PDF Print E-mail

Puspa and Wayan host a state-of-the-art cooking class with a morning tour of Ubud market, a real rice paddy, and a hands-on 8-course meal and cooking class. You cook in a traditional Balinese house, and the food was probably the best we tasted in Bali. It's true when they say a homecooked meal tastes better. You see what effort and intricacy and love goes into the food, and Puspa and Wayan teach you in a way so it's easily manageable and you can cook it at home. We didn't even eat dinner that evening because the lunch was so full and satisfying. A true highlight to our Bali trip!

fantastic day PDF Print E-mail

If you want a cooking class in Ubud you MUST do this. Everything on the day was fantastic. From the markets to the rice paddies and the time we spent at their house Puspa and Wayan were so happy to be sharing their knowledge with us.
We learnt so much more than just food and cooking.
A complete package.
Will definitely be doing this again on our next visit.

Fantastic - Not to be missed PDF Print E-mail

This was a great day, not just for the cooking, but also the trip to the markets in the morning, and the rice fields. Wayan and Puspa were so interesting to listen to about the culture of their village, and their families. They are a lovely family, and thoroughly enjoy having you there in their home and it shows. They have a great sense of humour as well.
The actual cooking class was in their home, and with only a small group, it was very good. The food was amazing, and excellent value for money. If you ever want to do a cooking class, this one is a must.

The highlight of our trip ! PDF Print E-mail

Wayan & Puspa are such a delightful couple who gave us so much more than cooking lessons. They picked us up from our hotel, took us first to the market, then to their own rice paddy and family compound ... giving us such a great insight into Balinese culture and family life. A most enjoyable and memorable day....thank you Wayan & Puspa, we'll certainly be recommending your cooking class to anyone travelling to Bali.

AMAZING! AMAZING....#1 ON YOUR THINGS TO DO IN BALI PDF Print E-mail

After reading the reviews on TripAdvisor I booked my class by email. As a single woman I was a bit apprehensive about doing this on my own, but all fears vanished when Wayan picked me up and greeted me with his wonderful smile. We were first introduced to all our other participants from around the world and toured the market, learning all about the different foods, vegetables, meat and spices
We were transported in an air conditioned vehicle from the market to the rice fields, where Wayan explained some of the history of the rice in Bali and the canal system to irrigate the rice fields….. along with the day to day operation and the management of the fields.

If you only do one cooking class, this is the one! PDF Print E-mail

We booked to attend this popular class well before our trip, and I'm so glad we did.
On my last trip to Bali I attended a cooking class in Munduk, at a resort there- just me, an interpreter, and a cook. That was fun, but I hardly touched the food and spent most of my time in frantic note-taking.
The Paon Bali class was so much better. Puspa and Wayan have a very smoothly running system, and they have excellent planning and people skills.
Since they both have admirable English, there was no interpreter needed, and the day's activities flowed smoothly along. The market trip was informative, and I found the ricefield visit fascinating. It also gave Puspa a chance to get the immense heap of raw ingredients assembled!

Puspa is the Donna Hay of Ubud...... PDF Print E-mail

such a memorable day for us.... to be welcomed by these two beautiful Balinese people into their home and treated like a family member was just a 'little' bit better than being a tourist. Such style and grace from our hostess, Puspa.... a classy lady with such a warm personality. Her skills and talents are to admired. I was like a sponge trying to suck in all the info she was giving.. Her home garden was impressive, and their waste not want not approach was something I admired... A must for anyone wanting the full Bali family/food experience..

Unlike anything else you'll experience in Bali! PDF Print E-mail

After finding this class featured on TripAdvisor, I contacted Puspa by email through the Paon Bali website and was able to get two spots for one of their morning classes. We specifically wanted to join a morning class so that we could visit the markets. I have been to Ubud many times before and while I am happy nowadays to forgo the crazy atmosphere of the Art Markets in all its hot and dirty glory, seeing them early in the morning when the place is filled with happy locals going about their morning fruit, veg and fresh meat shopping was an entirely new experience! While I don't know how they go about the afternoon class, if you are happy to miss out on your sleep in (we were picked up just after 7.00am in Kuta) then choosing the morning class really is a must!

A cultural and culinary experience PDF Print E-mail

My husband and I loved visiting the local markets, the rice paddies, and then learning to cook traditional Balinese meals.

A fun, relaxing day and great value for money. The best part was eating our cooking afterwards!

The meals we learnt to make were fairly straight forward, with ingredients we can find at home. Can't wait to use the recipes they gave us to cook for our family and friends now we are back!

Simply The Best PDF Print E-mail

If you want an authentic Balinese Cooking class experience, Paon Bali Cooking Class is simply the best. I have a culinary back ground & decided I didn't want to be shown the ropes by a European influenced chef ... We decided after great referrals from trip advisor we would chance Paon cooking class... I have to tell you I was not disappointed, It was the highlight of our trip to Ubud (including the surrounding lush rice paddies & undulating mountains & valleys). Our hosts Puspa & Wyan go beyond what you would expect from a regular cooking school. We were picked up on time from our Villa then ushered by a driver (included in cost) to the local Ubud markets. Met by Puspa & shown through with an enthusiastic attitude that immediately had the group of nine in the palm of her magic hands. I purchased 500g of vanilla beans from one of Puspa's recommended suppliers with the suggestion that I should bargain ( well priced) and which I later successfully passed through Australian customs with.

Great cooking school and peek into local lifestyle PDF Print E-mail

We thoroughly enjoyed doing this half day course. The market tour, rice paddies tour, and tour of the Indonesian house/village was very informative. The hosts are kind and very professional. The food was fresh and delicious and you are treated to a feast at the end of the course. The class makes the dishes altogether as a group, so you can choose to do more or less of the cooking as you choose. A very nice way to spend a day in Ubud!

My favorite day in Bali! PDF Print E-mail

This tour was incredible! Very intimate and a great way to see Balinese culture in its markets, its rice cultivation, its villages, and its home life. I was picked up in the morning at my bed and breakfast and met up with our group of 8 people. We were taken through the Ubud markets by Puspa and shown all the different types of indigenous fruits, vegetables, and spices soo interesting! Then we were driven to the rice fields in the Laplapan village and were taught about how rice is grown, harvested, and sold. Then we went to their home and made the most amaaazing food! This is a great hands on class that you are able to learn all about traditional Balinese foods and sauces and ways of preparing food and you eat incredibly yummy food! I highly recommend this to anyone who wants to learn more about the culture behind Balinese food and/or just wants to eat some great Balinese food!

The Best Thing we Did in Bali!! PDF Print E-mail

This was by far the best day we had in Bali...Puspa and Wayan were the best hosts ever..Loved how Wayan took us and explained how rice is planted and cultivated...We met Puspa at the Market in Ubud, where she explained all the different spices and veggies we would be cooking with not to mention we had some good laughs..
The Cooking Class itself was just awesome, and it was great we were able to spend some time in a traditional Balinese setting with a beautiful tropical view...Loved what we cooked, it was sooo good, it was a perfect day, highly recommend it :) After the Class was over, i had wanted some little serving dishes... Before they dropped us off at our hotel, both Puspa and Wayan made sure they let us shop a little...and i did get the dishes...at a local little shop for next to nothing!

A great way to experience Ubud (and Bali) PDF Print E-mail

We did the cooking class and loved it. Wayan and Puspa are great hosts, very welcoming and eager to make sure you have a great time. We loved the trip to the market and learning about rice cultivation. But our favourite part was being welcomed in to their home and of course the delicious food we helped prepare. The food was authentic and delicious! We also enjoyed meeting some of the other guests (the class sizes are small though which is definitely a big plus). The complimentary pick up and drop off by Wayan himself was much appreciated and made the whole day very easy and enjoyable. We definitely highly recommend the class for a great experience in Ubud!
