What a fantastic experience.
We booked the day before at the main Tourist Information Centre in Ubud.
This was more like a 'Learning Lunch' as one classmate noted. Husband and wife Wayan and Puspa are knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. The whole day was awesome - from the markets, to the rice paddies to their house for lots of learning, cooking and eating.
Food is organic where possible and even my non-cooking partner had an great time. Involvement is up to you - you can get in there and chop, fry and mix, or stand back and watch. I am vegetarian and was well catered for. A classmate has celiac disease and was well looked after too.
I loved every moment of the day, although Wayan talked a little too much for my attention span, and highly recommend this class. We saw some other classes, but this was by far the most popular and holistic.
- If getting transport to the class from out of Ubud beware of the steep transportation fee. Classmates paid 300,000IDR each return from Kuta for the day, organised by Paon Bali. A better idea would be to go to Ubud the day before for 50 IDR in a minivan, stay the night in a homestay for around 200,000IDR, do the course and then catch a 6pm bus back to Kuta or Denpasar etc.
