Amazing authentic Balinese cooking experience - must do in Ubud PDF Print E-mail

My partner and I visited the Paon Bali Cooking School at the beginning of January, and can say that it was definitely one of the highlights of our trip to Bali. Upon being picked up in the morning by Wayan we were informed that the other members of the group had cancelled due to the bad weather and that we would be the only two for the morning class, so we would be given a private class for around $35 AUD each!

Firstly we were taken to the Ubud local market where Wayan showed us where the locals shopped for produce - very interesting side to the otherwise tourist trap of Ubud market. Wayan then took us to his village where we were taken to the rice paddies where we were given an explanation of how rice grows, which was very interesting. Then the main attraction - the food!

Puspa greeted us at their home in Laplaplan village and went through the dishes we would be creating, from basic sauce to tempeh and Pepes Ikan (tuna in banana leaves). All the food was extremely hygenic, using bottled water for all cooking, and the end result was absolutely delicious - the best authentic Balinese food we had the whole trip!

If you're in Bali definitely give Paon a go, you will not be dissapointed.
